About

I paint impressionist landscapes and sometimes urban settings.  My focus is on the 'Spirit of Place' of particular locations.

I originally studied architecture and then went on to work as an urban designer and urban design illustrator, where exploring what made places unique was my main focus, so I've been looking at what makes places special and the effect they have on us for many years from different angles.  I turned to painting  to go deeper into what makes a place unique and how it affects our wellbeing. I return to paint the same places, often in the Darent Valley in Kent, with a particular fascination for ancient routes and the contrast with the fragile greenery of the passing seasons.

I am also half French. France and the painters who were inspired by the landscapes of France have had a big impact on my painting, especially the impressionists and their focus on capturing the essence of a place in the moment.

I've exhibited my paintings over many years including at the Pond Gallery in Clapham, at the Anise Gallery, Shad Thames as part of the Society of Architectural Illustrators,  at Crystal Palace Artists' Open House or Castle Farm  in the heart of the Darent Valley.
