About

My paintings are about reconnecting with and sharing a sense of abundance and wellbeing.
I paint to capture the light and the seasons, the sense of harmony and abundance that exists in beautiful places. I often return to painting country lanes, fields and meadows in Kent close to where I live.
I am also half French. France and the time I spent there as a child (as well as now) and the painters who were inspired by the landscapes of France have had a big impact on my painting and the spirit which I paint with.
I made my painting 'official' about 3 years ago. I am self-taught, although I have a background in design ( I trained as an architect originally ). Initially I painted for myself as a way of reconnecting with a sense of wellbeing, with the seasons and with nature . In those early years I only exhibited from time to time and was more interested in getting my paintings to a point where I felt they truly conveyed that magic- I was fascinated by how a painting could act as a short cut to wellbeing ( for me painting it and for the viewer looking at it) and I keep coming back to this today-it's at the heart of what motivates my painting and what makes it evolve.
So it's not simply about creating a beautiful image. My painting is a daily practice in finding and sharing a feeling of abundance and wellbeing. Today I have more understanding about what creates this feeling on the canvas and why ( some of it surprising- the importance of really celebrating the dark tones for instance!), but essentially it's still about reaching that moment of magic and harmony that inspires me.
